Happy Birthday, Thomas Merton

Today, one of my favorite authors and monks, Thomas Merton, was born in 1915 in Padres, France. On December 10, 1941, he entered the Trappist monastery of the Abbey of Gethsemani. He lived there until his death in 1968.
From the first time I read one of his books, his writing has always spoken to me. Although dead before I was born, he's been a mentor to me through his writings. I'm grateful for this man and for the way God used him during his life and, as much or maybe even more, since his death. May he rest in peace.

I recently picked up three books by Br. Merton.
1) The Wisdom of the Desert
2) No Man is an Island
3) Seeds of Contemplation
I'm currently reading some other stuff though I'm eagerly looking forward to diving into Merton's writings. The snippets I've read by him has been good stuff.
