I've Done It - Bible Reading in 2012

I've done it . . . I've chosen and started my Bible reading plan for 2012.  After finishing reading the Bible through in 2011, I wasn't quite sure what reading plan I would embark on for 2012.  I've learned that it definitely helps me to have a "plan", a structure for keeping me reading the Scriptures each day.

Which plan did I choose?  I'm glad you asked.  I'm using a reading plan called Professor Horner’s Bible-Reading System.  It's really rather simple.  You read 10 chapters of Scripture each day in 10 different books of the Bible.  For example, today's readings are:

  • Matthew 11
  • Genesis 11
  • Romans 11
  • 1 Timothy 3
  • Job 11
  • Psalm 11
  • Proverbs 11
  • Joshua 11
  • Isaiah 11
  • Acts 11

I like being exposed to so much Scripture each day.  I first thought this seemed like a lot but I've found it very doable.  Certainly, you're reading at a fairly good pace.  But if I want to stop and meditate a while on a passage, I have the freedom to do that.  There's a lot of flexibility with this plan.  One of the best things I like is that when I'm in parts of the Old Testament that may not interest me as much (Numbers, for instance), I'm only reading one chapter each day in that section instead of numerous chapters for days and days.

You can download a PDF of the plan here.  YouVersion also has the plan if you'd prefer to track your reading electronically.  There's even a Facebook group you can join and share your experience with others.

Does it really matter what Bible reading plan you follow?  No, it does not.  It only matters that you are regularly in the Word.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17 NIV)
