Today is a rainy day and days like today make me want to seek solitude. I can’t think of a thing I’d rather do than sit in the woods and listen to the rain fall. Rain brings with it distinctive sounds like water drops hitting the pavement or the roof of my house. Gutters begin to gurgle as the rain increases in intensity. It’s as if all of creation is being cleansed and quieted. A good steady rain seems to quiet my spirit and provides plenty of opportunity for my heart to be more inclined to prayer and contemplation. Before I realize it, no one seems to be around but the Lord and me. Those rainy days are the best.
